Starbound awakening the joy and wonder of Broadway.
Georgie and Jason both currently teach at prestigious Melbourne girls schools. They are producers of their own Drama School (Launchpad Drama) and freelance as directors, producers and choreographers of school musicals around Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. They started Starbound in 2005 as a wish to create opportunities for young people to learn from industry professionals in a fun and supportive environment. Mostly recently, their productions of The Little Mermaid & Legally Blonde: The Musical (Strathcona Girls Grammar) were nominated for a number of Lyrebird Awards - including Best Choreography, Best Ensemble and Best Production. They are passionate about the benefits of the performing arts for young people.
After sitting on the audition panel for many years, Tori has been a vocal supervisor at Starbound since 2019. She studied a Master of Music (Performance Teaching) at The University of Melbourne specialising in musical theatre and contemporary styles, and has been working as a voice teacher for almost a decade. Tori’s greatest passion is working with young performers on musical performances and productions, and she has vocal coached a variety of musicals such as Legally Blonde, Pippin, and The Little Mermaid.
Carly has been the choreographic supervisor at Starbound since 2017. Trained in all aspects of dance and musical theatre at May Downs School of Dance, Patrick Studios Australia, and Howard Fine Studios, Carly has a passion for storytelling. Whilst Carly has always loved being on stage, it is the creative side of musical theatre that brings her joy. Carly has been teaching and choreographing since 2013 and has degrees in dance, musical theatre, Pilates, and CSTD tap. Carly was the assistant choreographer of Footloose, West Side Story, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat for MatCo. She has choreographed Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and On the Wallaby for HOSA, along with choreographing for Opera Scholars.
With a keen passion for developing artistry, storytelling and technique in young singers, Matthew has been a vocal supervisor at Starbound since 2017. His previous studies include a Masters in Secondary Music Education and a Bachelor of Music (Vocal Performance) from Monash University. He also received his Licentiate diploma in Musical Theatre from the Australian Music Examinations Board. Since 2013, Matthew has maintained a focus on working with developing voices through music theatre, contemporary and classical disciplines, serving as the vocal coach for several school musicals including Seussical and All Shook Up. In 2020, he received the National Excellence in Teaching Award and the Early Career Teacher’s Award for his work in music education during the COVID-19 pandemic. Matthew currently maintains a private vocal studio in addition to his role as Head of Performing Arts at an independent secondary school in Melbourne’s east.
Jack Earle is a pianist, trumpet player, vocalist, conductor and composer. He is well established in the music industry as a performer and accompanist in multiple genres, with an esteemed reputation in musical theatre circles as a pit musician, orchestrator, and musical director. Previous shows include Dream Lover, Evita and Kiss Of The Spider Woman. Jack regularly records and performs nationally and internationally as musical director and/or band member for world class artists such as Rhonda Burchmore, David Campbell, Kate Ceberano, and Tina Arena. Jack is also an in demand jazz musician, playing around Australia in many of its premier ensembles, in the country’s most popular live music venues. The Jack Earle Big Band was formed in 2008 and has since developed into one of the country’s most sought-after large ensembles. The rhythm section of this band formed The Jack Earle Trio in 2015 to further experiment with composition and improvisation in a small ensemble setting. His extensive composition credits include 2 albums of original music (The Jack Earle Big Band and Is This Real?), a dance-theatre work entitled “SELF”, Tap-Dance syllabi for ATOD, and numerous jingles for television and radio. Most recently, Jack recently returned to Australia after studying at the prestigious Berklee College of Music with a full tuition scholarship, he released a Big Band Christmas Album with Rhonda Burchmore, and he is currently preparing to musically direct The Who’s Tommy for Victorian Opera in February 2022.
Talent. Tenacity. Teamwork. For the past twenty years, these words have underpinned our mission to inspire and nurture young musical performers. This 2-week intensive experience aims to create a space where young performers are able to pursue their passion for song, drama and dance. Equally, we have continually strived to provide opportunities for them to work with industry professionals and connect creatively with like-minded peers.
